Deputy National Police Chief Awards 3 Nam Phong Police Officers for Persuading Suicidal Man to Safety

The Deputy National Police Chief awarded and praised Nam Phong traffic police officers for carrying out their duties with the heart of peacekeepers, successfully persuading a distressed man contemplating suicide to safety.


At 08:30 on 12 January 2025 at Nam Phong Police Station, Police Colonel Chumphon Buachum, Chief of Nam Phong Police Station, Khon Kaen Province, represented Police General Samran Nualma, Deputy National Police Chief and Director of the Traffic Management Center, Royal Thai Police, to present awards to Sergeant Major Yuttana Mungkhunkhamchao, Sergeant Major Theerapong Lamkaek, and Police Sergeant Thanathap Chonsap, all traffic police officers at Nam Phong Police Station. These three officers assisted a distressed citizen on 5 January 2025 — a 37-year-old man sitting on the railing of a pedestrian bridge over Mittraphap Road, in front of Nam Phong Hospital, Nam Phong District, Khon Kaen Province.

Police Colonel Chumphon Buachum, Chief of Nam Phong Police Station, stated that on 5 January 2025 at approximately 15:50, Nam Phong traffic police responded to assist a distressed individual on a pedestrian bridge within their jurisdiction. The officers acted with courage, sacrifice, patience, and tact, using polite, calm, and appropriate communication to safely control the situation before transferring the individual to hospital care and coordinating with family members for follow-up care.

Police General Samran Nualma, Deputy National Police Chief and Director of the Traffic Management Center, expressed his appreciation and commendation for the Nam Phong police officers’ performance, aligning with the National Police Chief’s policy prioritizing public safety and life protection. He presented awards to the three officers as recognition and encouragement for their service.

The Chief of Nam Phong Police Station added that the assistance provided by the three officers reflects the true “heart of a police officer.” It exemplifies the use of communication skills combined with a sense of public service. This act of assistance offered the individual a chance to return to their family and start a new life, a priceless value.

The Royal Thai Police thank and commend these three officers for demonstrating professionalism, sacrifice, and responsibility in their duties. Their example strengthens public confidence in the Thai police's role in genuinely protecting and serving society.
