Hiking Enthusiasts Must Not Miss: Tad Ton National Park to Open Nature Trail to Conquer Phu Khong Peak

Hiking enthusiasts must not miss this opportunity. "Tad Ton National Park" is preparing to open a 9 km nature study trail to conquer Phu Khong Peak in Chaiyaphum Province, standing at 943 meters above sea level, where visitors can see the tallest Khmer temple in Thailand.

On 13 Dec 2025 GMT+7, the Facebook page of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation posted that Tad Ton National Park is advancing the survey of a long nature trail connecting Huai Laeng Forest to Phu Khong Peak, covering 9 kilometers. The trail is set to be developed into a new eco-tourism attraction, showcasing natural beauty and allowing visitors to experience an ancient civilization site at 943 meters above sea level.

Ms. Chatwarun Angkaew, Assistant Head of Tad Ton National Park, led a team of officials to survey the route from Ban Sap Ruang Sai, Na Siao Subdistrict, Chaiyaphum Province, to Phu Khong Peak near the Air Force Telecommunications Station, to assess suitability for opening a new tourist trail.

The trail's destination is "Phu Khong Temple," which houses a Shiva lingam at 943 meters above sea level. It is believed to be the highest situated Khmer temple in Thailand, reflecting the grandeur of ancient civilization. Along the way, the route features diverse natural elements including caves, rocks, and uniquely shaped trees, with abundant natural resources still well preserved—ideal for travelers who enjoy hiking and adventure.

This survey is part of efforts to enhance Tad Ton National Park's eco-tourism potential, aiming to offer visitors a chance to experience nature and history while promoting sustainable natural resource conservation.

It is expected that once this trail opens to the public, it will provide a new option for tourists seeking long-distance hiking experiences combined with learning about ancient civilizations amid beautiful natural surroundings.
