Crane Collapses Onto Passing Train, Causes Fire Rescue Efforts Underway for Injured and Deceased

A crane used in high-speed rail construction collapsed onto a passing train, causing a fire and derailing a carriage. Emergency crews are rushing to assist the injured and deceased.

On 14 January 2026, reporters reported that at approximately 09:45, a crane used in high-speed railway construction fell onto a carriage of Special Express Train No. 21 from Bangkok to Ubon Ratchathani. The incident occurred at railway kilometer 220, Marker 9, Village 11, Ban Thanon Kot, Si Khio Subdistrict, Si Khio District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, causing a fire. One train carriage derailed and caught fire. Initially, 20 people were reported injured.

Initial reports confirmed fatalities. Rescue personnel are urgently helping the injured out of the wreckage and rushing them to hospitals. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
