Nonthaburi Immigration Raids and Arrests Burmese Woman for Taking Thai Jobs, Running Unauthorized Hairdressing School

Nonthaburi Immigration raided and arrested a Burmese woman for taking jobs from Thai nationals by opening a hairdressing school teaching fellow Burmese. Burmese customers also used the services. She admitted to operating the school for over three months and was taken for prosecution at Bang Bua Thong Police Station for deportation.

At 13:30 on 14 Jan 2026 GMT+7, Pol. Col. Patthongthiw Damapong, Chief of Nonthaburi Immigration, along with Pol. Lt. Col. Sukrit Meebamrung, Deputy Chief, Pol. Lt. Col. Pitchsinee Wattanajungroj, and immigration investigation officers, accompanied by Ms. Araya Chantawan, Nonthaburi Employment Office, Mr. Surachai Kotrabutdee, Bang Yai District Chief, and Mr. Apichart Sukrat, Deputy District Officer in charge of security, inspected a house in Bua Thong Village 6, Bang Rak Phatthana Subdistrict, Bang Bua Thong District, Nonthaburi. This followed video evidence showing a Burmese woman residing there illegally operating a hair salon teaching hairdressing to fellow Burmese.

Upon inspection, they found Ms. NAN THU THU KWAW OO, 36, Burmese national, teaching hairdressing to four Burmese women inside the house. The students were practicing hair cutting and hair straightening techniques. One Burmese female customer was also receiving services at that time. This activity constituted working as a hairdresser, a profession prohibited for foreigners. She was identified and detained on charges of working beyond her permitted rights as a foreigner.

Ms. NAN THU THU KWAW OO stated she did not operate a hair salon to teach hairdressing. She claimed to be unemployed and only taught interested Burmese individuals without charging fees.

However, police investigations revealed that Ms. NAN THU THU KWAW OO had been secretly working as a hairdresser at the salon for about 3 to 4 months and earned approximately 8,000 baht per month from teaching hairdressing to Burmese customers.

The Burmese women receiving hair services and those learning hairdressing at the salon were initially found not guilty and were released. Ms. NAN THU THU KWAW OO was taken for questioning at the Nonthaburi Immigration Office before being sent to Bang Bua Thong Police Station for prosecution and subsequent deportation.
