PM 2.5 Dust Levels Surge Deputy Director Advises How to Relieve Symptoms After Health Impact

The Deputy Director of the Department of Medical Services advises ways to relieve symptoms caused by dust PM 2.5 after it affects the respiratory system, skin, and eyes

On 15 Jan 2026, Dr. Akkarat Jitnuiyanon, Deputy Director of the Department of Medical Services, revealed that currently, PM 2.5 dust levels are high and can impact the respiratory system, causing coughing; affect the skin, causing rashes; and irritate the eyes, causing discomfort. We should know how to alleviate these symptoms, such as

1. Respiratory system: To ease cough and sore throat, avoid dust exposure indoors and outdoors. Avoid spicy, fried, and fatty foods. Drink warm water, ginger tea, or lemon water mixed with honey. Eating sour fruits like lemon and Indian gooseberry, and herbs that relieve cough such as ginger rhizome, long pepper, pineapple, plum, and Ma Waeng Kreo is helpful. Use cough lozenges or Ma Waeng lozenges. Gargle with warm salt water to soothe the throat and ensure adequate sleep.

2. Skin system: To relieve skin symptoms, avoid dust contact. If you must go outside in dusty conditions, wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants to cover your body. After returning indoors, clean your body with mild soap and apply moisturizer. Avoid scratching or picking at itchy rashes. If rashes occur, antihistamines and steroid creams under medical supervision are recommended.

3. Eye system: To relieve eye symptoms, wear sunglasses that protect against dust and wind when outdoors. If dust gets into the eyes, do not rub them. Use artificial tears or eye wash solutions, or rinse eyes with saline or clean water.
