45-Day Detention Ordered for Senior Private Who Injured Junior Soldier, Guard Detained for Negligence

The Army clarified disciplinary action by ordering 45 days' detention for a senior private who assaulted a junior soldier, causing injury, at the 1st Special Forces Regiment in Lopburi Province. The duty guard was confined for negligence in duty.

On 17 Jan 2026 GMT+7, the Army posted a statement on the Facebook page "Army Spoke Team" addressing the violent incident in the Lopburi unit. They confirmed military disciplinary action has been taken and criminal proceedings are underway, with further investigation ongoing. The Army emphasized it does not protect offenders.

The statement noted that a Facebook page had posted allegations implicating the Army, claiming a soldier from the 1st Special Forces Regiment in Lopburi reported information about internal violence within the unit.

The Army investigated and confirmed the incident occurred in August 2025, when a senior private secretly assaulted a junior soldier in the same unit, causing injury that required hospital treatment.

Following the incident, the unit conducted an investigation and imposed military disciplinary measures on the offender, including a total of 45 days' detention. The offending private has served the sentence and returned to duty. Additionally, the unit confined the duty guard and assistant duty guard for 15 days each for negligence in supervising personnel on the day of the incident.

Regarding criminal proceedings, police at Lopburi City are conducting further interviews, with the case awaiting prosecutor review for formal charges. Once the criminal case concludes, civil proceedings will follow. The unit has assigned a military legal officer to closely monitor and assist with the case.

The Army reaffirmed it neither protects nor condones any wrongdoing, especially violence within units, and is fully cooperating with police and relevant agencies to ensure transparency and fairness for all affected parties. At the same time, the Army has instructed all military units to tighten personnel supervision, enhance understanding of military discipline and human rights, and review control measures, inspections, and internal complaint channels to prevent similar incidents in the future.
