Border Patrol Police Region 2 Intercepts Drug Network, Arrests Two Suspects Transporting 300 kg of Ice Methamphetamine

Border Patrol Police Region 2 intercepted a drug trafficking network, arresting two suspects hired to transport 300 kilograms of ice methamphetamine from a Lao associate, destined for Bangkok. Each was paid 50,000 baht and confessed to having done this twice before already.

At 13:30 on 17 Jan 2026 GMT+7, Police Colonel Kanit Klinsrisuk, Deputy Commander of Border Patrol Police Region 2, announced the arrest of Mr. Rungsak Suporn, 34, from Kham Kaeo Subdistrict, So Phisai District, Bueng Kan Province, and Mr. Kritpas Mekklon, 48, from Hat Paeng Subdistrict, Si Songkhram District, Nakhon Phanom Province. Seized were 300 kilograms of ice methamphetamine, a white Toyota Veloz registered in Bangkok, and a white Toyota commuter van also registered in Bangkok.

This followed a tip-off to Border Patrol Police Region 2 intelligence that a drug trafficking group from a neighboring country was smuggling ice methamphetamine using a white Toyota Veloz SUV and a white commuter van, both registered in Bangkok. Their route was from Mukdahan Province heading toward Na Kae District, Nakhon Phanom, with the final destination Bangkok.

Orders were given to Lieutenant Komsan Nilsomboon, head of the Operations Unit of Border Patrol Police Region 2, to coordinate with the Intelligence Bureau of the Internal Security Operations Command, the Military Operations Center of the Surasak Montri Task Force, the Narcotics Suppression Office, the Narcotics Suppression Division in Udon Thani, the Narcotics Suppression Office Division 4, and the Naval Narcotics Suppression Unit to investigate and monitor the suspicious individuals. Officers were deployed along the suspected route to observe the vehicles reported by citizens.

In the early hours of 16 Jan 2026 GMT+7, the suspicious vehicles were spotted traveling on the Sakon Nakhon-Na Kae Road near the Na Kae intersection, Na Kae Subdistrict, Na Kae District, Nakhon Phanom, heading toward Sakon Nakhon. Officers closely followed both vehicles until they parked in the lot of Sakon Nakhon Municipal Market (Bypass Market) in Dong Mafai Subdistrict, Mueang District, Sakon Nakhon. Police then revealed themselves and requested to search the vehicles.

They found ice methamphetamine packed in black bags inside the rear passenger compartment of the white Toyota Veloz SUV registered in Bangkok, two bags in total. Mr. Rungsak, the driver, and Mr. Kritpas, 48, the driver of the white Toyota commuter van registered in Bangkok, who acted as the lead decoy vehicle, were detained. Both were taken for interrogation.

The deputy commander said both suspects admitted they were contacted by a Lao man named Ai Kham to pick up drugs at the Mekong River area in Mukdahan Province. They agreed on a fee of 50,000 baht each upon delivery, totaling 100,000 baht. The destination was Khlong Sam Wa District, Bangkok. They confessed this was their third time transporting drugs for this Lao associate. However, they were arrested at Sakon Nakhon Municipal Market (Bypass Market), Dong Mafai Subdistrict, Mueang District, Sakon Nakhon. The seized ice methamphetamine is valued at approximately 50 million baht.

After interrogation, charges were filed for jointly trafficking Category 1 narcotics (methamphetamine or yaba), possessing them for distribution with intent to trade, causing drug proliferation among the public, and threatening state security and public safety. The suspects were handed over to the Mueang Sakon Nakhon Police Station for prosecution according to the law.
