A video shared on social media shows a woman going berserk, wielding a knife to stab people on Sukhumvit Road, injuring two before fleeing in a taxi. She was cornered and arrested by police, who filed preliminary charges and sent her for psychiatric evaluation instead of immediate prosecution.
According to reports, a video circulated on social media showing a woman acting violently on Sukhumvit Road, attacking both locals and foreigners and injuring two people. She then tried to escape by getting into a taxi but was ultimately trapped and promptly arrested by police on the evening of Friday, 16 Jan 2025 GMT+7.
A reporter spoke with local motorcycle taxi drivers near the scene, who said the woman had been in the area for some time, often speaking harshly to others and showing a quick temper, but had never acted violently until this incident.
It was also reported that the woman had previously caused trouble on a bus, where she argued with the conductor while carrying a weapon, resulting in her being forced off the bus in the Thonglor area.
Local residents near the incident site said that besides this woman, there are many homeless individuals in the area showing signs of mental illness. Some exhibit disturbing behaviors that trouble locals and foreign tourists alike. They urged relevant authorities to investigate and properly manage these individuals, placing them in suitable facilities to protect the area's tourism image.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Pairat Kamlee, deputy investigation chief at Lumpini Police Station, said the initial charge filed against the woman was assault. She was sent for psychiatric evaluation at Somdet Chaopraya Hospital. If diagnosed with a mental illness, doctors will treat her until recovery, after which police will coordinate to proceed with legal action.
Regarding the injured victims, police reported that they did not wish to press charges. Preliminary medical exams showed minor injuries, and the victims declined medical treatment.
About the previous bus incident, investigators coordinated with nearby police stations to confirm whether she had been taken into custody for that case. If she has entered the legal system but continues violent behavior, further preventive measures may be necessary, involving cooperation among multiple agencies to address this ongoing issue.
