Residents of Huai Talung village were deeply alarmed after discovering numerous animal skulls dumped around. Recent examinations confirmed these were pig skulls, believed to have been discarded as dog food.
A Facebook user posted photos of dry animal skulls resembling dog skulls, left in an open area near a water source in Huai Talung community, close to Nong Yadok Khao Subdistrict Municipality, Thamuang District, Kanchanaburi Province. The post caused significant alarm among viewers and local residents.
At 11:00 a.m. on 19 Jan 2026 GMT+7, reporters visited the reported site and found many skull fragments scattered across the open area, emitting a strong foul odor. The skulls had long snouts resembling those of dogs, but it was unclear if they were truly dog skulls.
Mr. Udon Pengaram, Mayor of Nong Yadok Khao Subdistrict Municipality, along with Mr. Krisana Komonchan, Livestock Officer of Thamuang District, and local administrative officials, visited the site to investigate the matter.
Upon detailed examination, it was found that the skulls belonged to pigs, not dogs as initially thought. The skulls were notably longer than dog skulls, and the teeth arrangement lacked canine teeth typical of dogs, confirming they were pig skulls.
Mr. Udon Pengaram explained that local residents reported seeing someone on a motorcycle with a sidecar bringing butchered pig heads to feed stray dogs in the area. After the dogs finished eating, the pig skulls were left uncollected, accumulating and producing a strong odor. This led to mistaken assumptions that the skulls belonged to dogs and the online post.
The municipality plans to collect and properly bury the pig skulls and use disinfectants supplied by the Thamuang District Livestock Office to clean the area and eliminate the odor. Moving forward, municipal officials will monitor the area to prevent further disposal of pig skulls as dog food, avoiding recurrence of this problem.
