On 20 January 2026, reporters reported that the Meteorological Department's Facebook page forecasted a new cold wave from 21-25 January 2026, with temperatures dropping 2-4 degrees Celsius.
The 24-hour weather forecast indicates that upper Thailand will have cool weather with morning fog, including some areas of dense fog. The North and Upper Northeast will remain cool to cold due to a weakening high-pressure system or cold air mass covering upper Thailand. Meanwhile, westerly winds from Myanmar move over the Upper North and Upper Laos. The Lower Central and Eastern regions will experience some rain due to southeasterly winds bringing moisture. The public is advised to take care of their health amid changing weather, be cautious when traveling in foggy areas, and beware of fire hazards because of dry conditions.
For the South, scattered thunderstorms are expected as a weakening northeast monsoon covers the Gulf of Thailand and the South. Waves in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea are about 1 meter high. Mariners are urged to exercise caution when navigating.
Currently, in upper Thailand, the accumulation of dust and haze is at moderate to rather high levels due to weak air ventilation.
Upper Thailand will see temperatures drop by 2 - 4 degrees Celsius, with cool to cold weather and strong winds, as a new moderate-strength high-pressure system or cold air mass from China moves over upper Thailand and the South China Sea. The South will continue experiencing scattered thunderstorms due to a moderate-strength northeast monsoon covering the Gulf of Thailand, the South, and the Andaman Sea.
