This follows an incident on 11 Jan 2026 when unidentified assailants planted bombs and set fire to a gas station in Mueang District, Yala Province, causing significant damage. Authorities have collected evidence at the scene and received reports from local residents that insurgents suspected to be involved have taken refuge in Paoyani village, Sateng Nok Subdistrict, Mueang District, Yala Province.
Then, on 20 Jan 2026 at approximately 00:20, the Yala Provincial Joint Special Operations Unit, Yala Task Force, Yala Provincial Police Force, and combined forces conducted a law enforcement operation against the violent group. The operation followed principles of escalation from minimal to heavier force, strictly respecting human rights. Local leaders and community heads were invited to join negotiations to encourage those inside the house to surrender.
