On 20 Jan 2026 CE, it was reported that at 11:00 a.m. a fire occurred at the crane wreckage on the outbound side of Rama 2 Road near the Paris Hotel in Samut Sakhon Province. This is the location where the crane collapsed on 15 Jan 2026 CE.
Meanwhile, the Fire & Rescue Thailand Facebook page reported that initially, the cause appeared to be sparks from metal cutting by officials of the Italian-Thai Development Company dismantling the damaged crane at the site. The exact cause remains unclear.
Officials suspect that debris fell onto the hydraulic machinery below, possibly causing an oil leak. When exposed to heat from the metal cutting, sparks and smoke were generated. No injuries or deaths were reported. Firefighters intervened to control the fire, which was brought under control.
