Cause of Fire Under Rama 2 Crane Debris Revealed: Sparks from Demolition Work Fell onto Vehicle under Cement Pile

The cause of the fire under the Rama 2 elevated road crane debris was sparks from cutting and dismantling steel and concrete parts. These sparks blew under the debris where oil from a vehicle crushed by the crane was present. Authorities will now tighten safety measures further to prevent recurrence.

At around 10:30 a.m. on 20 January 2026 GMT+7, Police Lieutenant Siamrat Ketrat, Deputy Investigation Inspector of Muang Samut Sakhon Police Station, received a report of a fire beneath the debris of a collapsed crane on the Rama 2 elevated road in Tha Chin Subdistrict, Muang District, Samut Sakhon Province. The incident caused alarm among road users. Officials promptly coordinated with fire trucks from Tha Chin Municipality and P S P Specialties Company, dispatching two vehicles to extinguish the fire. After about 20 minutes of water spraying, the fire was brought under control.

Initial investigations suggest the fire was caused during the demolition of the collapsed crane. Sparks generated from cutting and dismantling steel and concrete parts fell into the debris beneath, where oil stains from a vehicle crushed by the crane remained. This caused the fire to ignite. Officials noted that such incidents have occurred before but were infrequent. Moving forward, safety protocols for hot work will be intensified to prevent similar incidents from happening again.

Regarding traffic, Muang Samut Sakhon traffic police have been continuously directing traffic in the area. They are expediting vehicle flow to prevent drivers from slowing down or stopping to take photos, as this not only obstructs emergency operations but also worsens traffic congestion.
