Another Case Emerges: Sole Candidate Loses to No Vote in By-Election for Municipal Councilor, Chorakhe Sam Phan Subdistrict

In Suphanburi, another case has emerged where the sole candidate in the by-election for Municipal Councilor of Zone 2 in Chorakhe Sam Phan Subdistrict lost to the 'No Vote' option amid doubts. He insists he has never behaved badly, acted as a local influential figure, or been involved in any scandal within the electoral area before submitting a petition for justice to the municipal secretary to forward to the Suphanburi Election Commission for consideration.

At 10:30 a.m. on 20 January 2026, at the Chorakhe Sam Phan Subdistrict Municipality office in U Thong District, Suphanburi Province, Mr. Jilda Klin Kasorn, candidate for the by-election for Municipal Councilor Zone 2, together with over 30 local residents, submitted a letter requesting justice to Mr. Thong Sai Tesanui, the municipal secretary of Chorakhe Sam Phan, who accepted the letter.

The letter submitted by Mr. Jilda stated that he was the only candidate in the by-election held on 18 January. There was a group of people who used money to bribe eligible voters in the area to cast 'No Vote' ballots totaling 1,711 votes. Mr. Jilda received 1,221 votes, which caused him to lose the election and his voting rights according to the law.

I have served as a community volunteer and have never behaved badly, acted as an influential figure, or caused any scandal in the various election areas. The election results caused me to lose my rights and brought humiliation. I have witnesses willing to allow the Election Commission to investigate and verify the complaint. The municipal secretary of Chorakhe Sam Phan has received the petition and will forward it to the Election Commission for consideration. The residents then dispersed to prepare to submit a letter to the Suphanburi Election Commission as well.

Mr. Thawat Sitthithanyasilp said that it is impossible for the whole village community to dislike him completely. Given these vote counts, one must ask if there was any intent involved. He and the villagers are now exercising their rights to request justice, claiming they have been mistreated and asking the Election Commission to examine whether the votes reflecting total village dislike are genuine.

Mrs. Woon Klin Kasorn, aged 86 and mother of candidate Mr. Jilda, said her son was the only candidate with no opponents, but this outcome is very disappointing. She cried until she had no tears left and felt deeply hurt. The villagers present said such an event is abnormal and want to seek justice for Mr. Jilda because he is a good person who volunteers and has no disreputable behavior. Given this incident, he faces a 10-year political ban. She hopes the Election Commission will investigate the area.

Regarding the by-election for Municipal Councilor of Chorakhe Sam Phan Subdistrict, Zone 2, held on Sunday, 18 January 2026, there was only one candidate, Mr. Jilda Klin Kasorn, who received a total of 1,221 votes. There were 5,382 eligible voters, with 3,122 casting ballots. Valid votes numbered 1,221 (39.11%), spoiled ballots 190, and 'No Vote' ballots 1,711 (54.80%). Because the 'No Vote' count exceeded the candidate's votes, he did not meet the election criteria and is thus restricted from political rights per Election Commission rules. The candidate is now seeking justice over this result.
