Buriram Approves Over 21 Million Baht in Compensation for Deaths During Border Clashes Evacuation

The Screening Committee approved funds from the "Buriram Province Refugee Assistance Fund" to compensate families of patients who died or were injured during evacuation amid the second round of Thai-Cambodian border clashes, as well as to rehabilitate damaged farmland, with initial total funds exceeding 21 million baht.

On 22 January 2026, Mr. Sritam Rajkaew, Deputy Governor of Buriram Province, chaired a meeting of the Screening Committee for the use of donations from the Buriram Refugee Assistance Fund. The meeting reviewed requests for fund disbursement submitted by the Buriram Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office and the Buriram Provincial Agriculture Office. Relevant government agencies and departments participated at the conference room on the first floor of the Buriram Provincial Treasury Office, located in Samet Subdistrict, Mueang District, Buriram Province.

The meeting resolved to approve compensation payments of 200,000 baht each to the families of patients who died during evacuation due to the clashes along the Thai-Cambodian border starting from 8 December 2025, sourced from the "Buriram Province Refugee Assistance Fund." This includes four patients who were moved for treatment and subsequently died in hospitals, one patient who died at home, three who died during evacuation, and one community defense volunteer (Chor Ror Bor) who died while on duty—totaling nine deaths. Additionally, one injured community defense volunteer who lost a finger while helping villagers dig a shelter will receive 100,000 baht in compensation.

Furthermore, the meeting approved compensation for damaged cultivated land where crops died or were destroyed beyond recovery, based on actual losses: 1,340 baht per rai for rice fields, 1,980 baht per rai for field and vegetable crops, and 4,048 baht per rai for fruit trees, perennial plants, and others. Other forms of assistance totaling 266,452 baht were also approved. The preliminary total assistance approved exceeds 21 million baht.
