Supreme Court Orders Removal of Chonsit Kaewyarat from Phuket MP Candidate List over Media Shareholding

Urgent: The Supreme Court has ordered the removal of Chonsit Kaewyarat, candidate for MP in Phuket's 2nd district from the Kla Tham Party, due to his media shareholding. He apologized to the public, thanked supporters, and affirmed he will continue social work even though he will no longer be in politics.

On 21 Jan 2026 in Phuket province, reporters reported that the Supreme Court ordered the removal of Chonsit Kaewyarat, candidate for MP in Phuket's 2nd district from the Kla Tham Party, from the official candidate list. The court ruled that he is disqualified from candidacy under the constitution due to holding shares in a media business.

This order means that Chonsit, who was candidate number 1, can no longer compete in the election for MP in this district.

Chonsit Kaewyarat has taken responsibility and apologized to the people of Phuket, stating:

“I, Chonsit Kaewyarat, candidate for MP in Phuket's 2nd district, number 1, sincerely apologize to all the people of Phuket for being removed from the candidacy due to lacking qualification related to media shareholding. This is a shortcoming I accept and respect the decision made according to the rules.”

He also thanked the public for their continuous support and confirmed that he will keep working for society despite no longer being in the political arena.

“I sincerely thank everyone for all the encouragement, trust, and support you have given me. These mean a great deal to me. Although I cannot continue in the election, I remain committed to benefiting Phuket's society and standing with the people. Thank you and I apologize from the heart.”

The removal of this candidate follows legal procedures and qualification rules for election candidates as set by the constitution and related laws.
