Warning: High Dust Levels in Bangkok, Metropolitan Area, Central and Western Regions from 27 Jan to 3 Feb

The Pollution Control Department warns that from 27 January to 3 February 2026, dust levels in Bangkok, the metropolitan area, central, and western regions are likely to remain continuously above standards, mostly at the orange level, starting to affect health due to reduced air ventilation rates. It advises wearing masks before going outside.

On 27 January 2025, the Air Pollution Communication Center of the Pollution Control Department issued a warning for Bangkok, the metropolitan area, central, and western regions that from 27 January to 3 February 2026, particulate matter in the atmosphere is expected to remain continuously above standard limits, mostly at the orange level (beginning to affect health).

The cause is reduced air ventilation rates and weather conditions resembling a lid trapping dust particles, preventing their dispersal and worsening the situation. On 29-30 January, wind direction may shift to southerly winds bringing moisture from the Gulf of Thailand, which when mixed with suspended dust particles can cause haze and reduced visibility.

The Pollution Control Department urges residents to take care of their health by avoiding outdoor activities. If necessary, they should wear masks and protective equipment when going outside, and strictly follow the Ministry of Public Health's recommendations to mitigate the worsening dust situation. The department requests cooperation to avoid open burning, reduce vehicle use, strictly control factories and construction sites to suspend dust-generating activities. Air quality updates can be followed on the website Air4Thai.pcd.go.th or the Air4Thai application.
