The Social Security Office has launched a loan program for repairing or building homes to assist insured persons under Sections 33, 39, and 40 who were affected by the 2025 floods in nine southern provinces.
On 28 Jan, Ms. Kanchana Poolkaew, Secretary-General of the Social Security Office (SSO), stated that the office is assisting insured persons impacted by flooding in southern provinces by establishing a loan program for home repair or construction. This program covers insured persons in nine southern provinces: Trang, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Narathiwat, Pattani, Phatthalung, Yala, Songkhla, Satun, and Surat Thani. It aims to alleviate hardship and support insured persons in restoring their homes and returning to normal life. The program is open to insured persons under Sections 33, 39, and 40, with Section 40 participants required to have contributed for at least six months within the past 12 months before applying. Insured persons may work in any province, but the home to be repaired or built must be their own property located in one of the nine affected provinces. Additionally, they must have owned the property before it was damaged by flooding.
The loan amount is divided into two cases: 1. For home repairs, the loan limit is up to 500,000 baht per person; 2. For building a new home to replace the damaged one, the loan limit is up to 2,000,000 baht per person. The project sets low interest rates to ease the burden on insured persons: a maximum of 1.59% per year for years 1–5; for years 6–8, interest is MRR minus 2%; and from year 9 onward, MRR minus 0.5%. Insured persons can apply for loans within six months, from 29 Jan 2026 to 31 Jul 2026, or until the program’s funds are fully allocated. If an insured person submits within the certification period but the funds are already exhausted, they will lose the right to participate. Priority is given to those who sign loan agreements first. To join the program, insured persons must obtain a certificate of insured status from any Social Security Office nationwide, then submit the certificate to a bank within the specified time. The bank will consider and approve loans based on its criteria and discretion.
Ms. Kanchana added that this program is an important measure by the Social Security Office to help insured persons restore their homes after disasters effectively, reduce housing expenses, and enhance the long-term livelihood security of insured persons and their families.
