On 28 Jan 2026 GMT+7, reporters observed a bustling atmosphere at Nong Din Dam, Ban Nanoi, Lao Phatthana Subdistrict, Na Wa District, Nakhon Phanom Province. This area borders Ban Na Muang Noi, Akat Subdistrict, Akat Amnuai District, Sakon Nakhon Province. Hundreds of expert netters and local residents from various areas traveled to purchase tickets to participate. "Communal Fish Catching" amid the lively and smiling villagers from both sides of the area.

Nong Din Dam is a public water body that villagers have jointly cared for and conserved for over five years. It was specially opened for fishing to raise funds to buy communal chairs for village activities. Tickets priced at 200–250 baht were sold, allowing interested participants to fish using traditional methods and tools such as nets, traps, and a local fishing device called 'sadueng' or 'yo,' which attracted significant interest from fishing experts.

The fish found in Nong Din Dam are natural species, including Pla Khao, Pla Tong Krai, Pla Tapian, Pla Nang Daeng, Pla Khao, and other types. These fish migrate from the Yam, Si Songkhram, and Mekong rivers during the flood season, making this event popular among both serious anglers and community fishing enthusiasts.

One experienced fisher shared that he arrived early, camping overnight to prepare equipment and secure a ticket. Some participants traveled from Udon Thani Province after hearing about the ticket sales. They said the trip was worthwhile, as they could catch many fish within a few hours. Some sold their catch to local traders who came to buy at the site, earning over 3,000 baht, while others took fish home for family consumption.

Mr. Dab Chai Nam Sao, 57, the village headman of Nanoi, said that Nong Din Dam is a public water resource jointly cared for by villagers from both areas. Normally, fishing is prohibited to conserve and allow fish to reproduce. However, due to budget shortages for communal chairs and equipment, the committee approved a special communal fish catching event.

Besides generating income, the event helps preserve local traditions and indigenous knowledge. This activity exemplifies community strength in managing local resources collaboratively, creating circulating income, and fostering lasting unity among villagers. A second communal fish catching event at Nong Din Dam will be held again on 31 Jan 2026 GMT+7, and interested persons are welcome to join.
