Village Security Guard Explains Filming Taxi Driver Uncle, Unaware He Was Having a Stroke, Ultimately Helped Him to Hospital

A village security guard explained filming a taxi driver uncle who staggered out of his car and asked if he was drunk, not knowing he was having a stroke, but ultimately helped him until he was taken to the hospital. Meanwhile, the patient's wife said his condition is critical with no response yet to any stimuli.

On 30 Jan 2026 GMT+7, reporters reported that a video circulated on social media showing a taxi driver colliding with parked cars and driving erratically. In the clip, a man outside the vehicle shouted for him to stop and asked if he was drunk. The original poster questioned whether one would rush to help someone falling or just record it, and whether one would assist or let them die there. The incident sparked widespread criticism because the taxi driver's swerving was due to a stroke.

Later, reporters went to a village in Sena District, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province, and met Mrs. Kantinan Thongdaeng, 33, the wife of Mr. Wallop Thongdee, 52, the taxi driver. She pointed to where her husband fell and reported that his condition remains critical. He is still being treated in the ICU at Pathumvej Hospital in Pathum Thani Province, under close medical supervision, as he is unconscious and unresponsive.

Reporters coordinated with Mr. Somchai Suphon, the village headman, who identified the clip’s filmer as a village security guard (Chor Ror Bor) responsible for internal village safety and reporting local situations to community leaders. The guard’s name is Mr. Ek (pseudonym), 64. He explained and showed the video evidence of the incident where the taxi driver hit other cars and then fell at the scene.

Mr. Ek said he serves as an assistant village security guard and was at the scene when the taxi driver hit four other vehicles. He recorded the entire event, starting from when the taxi driver hit a pickup truck at the village U-turn spot until the driver opened his car door and fell beside his own taxi. Mr. Ek followed and filmed until the final point where the driver fell. Unaware of the driver’s illness, he saw the driver swerving and hitting other cars, and when he opened the door, he staggered, so he thought he might be drunk. When the driver fell and villagers informed him that the driver lived nearby, Mr. Ek helped notify the driver’s relatives and alerted police and rescue workers, staying at the scene until the driver was taken to the hospital.

Afterwards, Mr. Ek had to report the incident via the village LINE group, posting the video and reporting that a taxi driver had collided with residents’ cars. The clip showed the driver opening the door, staggering, and falling on the road. He said he did not expect anyone to post it publicly and accuse him of not helping. He wants to clarify that he was unaware the driver was ill but only saw behavior resembling drunkenness, which is why he spoke that way. At the time, he did not approach to help because he was using a radio to inform local police to call rescue, and was fetching the driver’s relatives to the scene. He did not expect the clip to be posted and become such a big issue.
