Temperature Drops to 4°C at Doi Inthanon Tourists Excited to Witness Frost Phenomenon

Doi Inthanon continues to experience cold weather, with temperatures dropping to a low of 4°C. Tourists are excited to witness and feel the cold that causes the "frost" phenomenon known locally as "Mae Ka Ning."

At 09:00 on 1 Feb 2026, a reporter reported that the Doi Inthanon National Park in Chom Thong District, Chiang Mai Province, led by Mr. Jeeraniti Cheangsaat, the park chief, revealed that the cold weather persists with a slight temperature increase. The lowest temperature recorded at the summit was 4°C, 5°C at Kew Mae Pan, and 9°C at the park office. The frost phenomenon occurred for the 43rd time, with frost found along the Kew Mae Pan nature trail and frost crystals clinging to wooden boards.

Additionally, tourists enjoyed the beautiful morning sunlight and sea mist, as well as nature walks in various areas within Doi Inthanon National Park, including Mae Klang Waterfall, Mae Ya Waterfall, Wachirathan Waterfall, and Thung Siao Waterfall. The park has assigned staff at each location to assist and provide guidance to visitors.

Regarding visitor statistics for Doi Inthanon National Park on 31 Jan 2026, there were 2,417 Thai tourists and 1,421 foreign visitors, totaling 3,838 people, with 904 vehicles. Visitors are reminded to drive cautiously when ascending the mountain, using low gear and taking care on the winding roads.

Meanwhile, the Northern Meteorological Center of the Meteorological Department under the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, Chiang Mai, reported through Ms. Nopparat Ritmahan, the daily northern weather forecaster, that a new moderate high-pressure cold air mass has spread to cover upper Laos and upper northeastern Thailand. It is expected to extend over the northern, central, and eastern regions in the coming period.

As a result, the northern region will continue to experience cool to cold weather with morning fog and varying thickness in some areas. The public is advised to take care of their health due to the changing weather conditions and to exercise extra caution when traveling through foggy areas.
