The Meteorological Department forecasts that northern Thailand will continue to experience lower temperatures and strong winds. Temperatures will then rise before a new cold air mass arrives. The public is advised to take care of their health amid changing weather conditions from 5 to 7 February.
The Meteorological Department issued regional weather forecasts along with hazard risk maps for 3 February 2026 at 06:00 GMT+7.
24-hour weather forecast: A moderate high-pressure system, or cold air mass, from China is spreading over northern Thailand. This situation causes the North and Northeast regions to experience cold to chilly weather, while the Central and Eastern regions have cool mornings. The public is advised to take care of their health due to the cold weather.
The South still has scattered rain due to a moderate northeast monsoon covering the Gulf of Thailand, the southern region, and the Andaman Sea. Waves in the lower Gulf of Thailand are moderate, with heights around 2 meters; in the upper Gulf and offshore Andaman Sea, waves are 1-2 meters high. Mariners in these areas are advised to navigate with caution. Dust and haze levels in northern Thailand are moderate due to improved air circulation.
7-day weather forecast: From 2 to 4 February 2026, northern Thailand will see falling temperatures and strong winds as a moderate to fairly strong high-pressure system or cold air mass from China spreads over northern Thailand and the South China Sea.
Waves and winds in the Gulf of Thailand and Andaman Sea will be moderate. In the lower Gulf, wave heights reach about 2 meters, exceeding 2 meters in areas with thunderstorms due to a strengthening northeast monsoon covering the Gulf of Thailand, South, and Andaman Sea.
From 5 to 7 February 2026, northern Thailand will experience rising temperatures with morning fog because the moderate high-pressure system covering northern Thailand weakens. Waves and winds in the Gulf of Thailand and Andaman Sea will also weaken, with wave heights of 1-2 meters in the lower Gulf and over 2 meters in thunderstorm areas, due to a weakening northeast monsoon covering the Gulf of Thailand, South, and Andaman Sea.
Then, on 8 and 9 February 2026, a new moderate high-pressure system or cold air mass from China will spread over the Northeast region, initially causing thunderstorms. Afterwards, temperatures will drop and winds strengthen.
Precautions: From 5 to 7 February 2026, people in northern Thailand and the upper South are advised to take care of their health amid changing weather. They should exercise caution when traveling through foggy areas. Residents in the North and Central regions should also protect themselves against increasing dust accumulation caused by poor air uplift and light winds.
Earthquake situation (2-3 February 2026): Earthquakes measuring 3.0, 3.8, 2.0, and 2.2 magnitude were detected with epicenters in Myanmar, and a 4.3 magnitude quake occurred north of the Sumatran Islands, Indonesia. There was no impact on Thailand.
Additionally, the Meteorological Department posted a reminder to bring umbrellas for the 8 February 2026 election day, as rain is expected in several areas of Central, Eastern, Southern regions, Bangkok, and its vicinity.
This is due to a new moderate high-pressure system or cold air mass from China spreading down, initially causing thunderstorms. Temperatures will then drop and winds will strengthen.
