A 43-year-old man, intoxicated and delusional, mistakenly believed his sister had sold land for nearly a million baht. When she refused to give him 30,000 baht to buy alcohol, he set fire to two houses in protest, destroying one while the other was extinguished in time.
On 3 Feb 2026 GMT+7, Police Lieutenant Colonel Patipat Nuea Khu Mueang, Deputy Inspector (Investigation) of Chaloem Phra Kiat Police Station, along with officers and coordinated fire trucks, responded to a report of an intoxicated man acting violently by setting a house on fire in Ban Pradachabok, Charoensuk Subdistrict, Chaloem Phra Kiat District, Buriram Province.
Upon arrival, they found Mr. Komsan, 43, using a hammer to break the pillars of his own house while setting it on fire. Firefighters were controlling flames at another house, but it was already completely destroyed by the fire.
When officers arrived, Mr. Komsan fled from arrest and hid inside an emergency rescue vehicle. Police used a baton to detain him while he was still heavily intoxicated. Initially, he confessed to setting the house on fire.
The cause was his dissatisfaction with his sister, who refused his repeated requests for money to buy alcohol—first 10,000 baht, then 20,000 baht, and finally 30,000 baht. Believing she had sold farmland for about 1,000,000 baht, he decided to set the houses on fire in protest.
Ms. Laksamee Daengnara, 63, a relative of Mr. Komsan, said he first set fire to the smaller house and was about to burn the larger one, but she was able to extinguish it in time. Afterwards, he used a hammer to nearly break the pillars before the authorities arrived. Regarding the land Mr. Komsan claimed his sister sold, she has not sold it. Mr. Komsan, prone to heavy drinking and delusions, caused the incident.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Patipat Nuea Khu Mueang, Deputy Inspector (Investigation), said this is a dangerous case because the suspect is delusional and could cause harm unpredictably, especially to nearby residents or close relatives. Therefore, authorities planned carefully before taking action.
