Veterans Day: Naming of Krittikorn and Pachara Bases Honors Fallen Heroes at Hill 677

The commander of the 9th Infantry Regiment, 1st Battalion took advantage of the auspicious Veterans Day to lead troops in installing nameplates for the new operational bases "Krittikorn" and "Pachara," named after heroic soldiers who gave their lives at Hill 677.

On 3 Feb 2026 GMT+7, Lieutenant Colonel Wisarut Wongsirirat, commander of the 1st Infantry Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, Surasi Camp, Kanchanaburi Province, accompanied by Phra Khomkrit Sarakitjo, also known as Luang Phi Off, abbot of Wat Planpapang in Nam Yuen District, led troops from the 1st Infantry Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, and personnel from the 2nd Special Operations Battalion, 1st Special Operations Regiment, to jointly install the nameplates for the "Krittikorn" and "Pachara" operational bases. These two new bases were named after Private Krittikorn Sorya and Sergeant Pachara Yamtaengon, who sacrificed their lives at Hill 677 during the second clash between Thai and Cambodian forces.

The ceremony was simple and solemn, featuring a reading honoring the two soldiers. Lieutenant Colonel Wisarut then elegantly hung the operational base nameplates on the posts. This was followed by a moment of silence accompanied by a bugle call. Phra Khomkrit performed the Chayanto chant and anointed the base nameplates to bring blessings to the troops at both bases.

Lieutenant Colonel Wisarut stated that this military operation involved multiple units. The Thai side spent five days successfully reclaiming the area, with five soldiers sacrificing their lives. Among them, the two brave soldiers, Private Krittikorn Sorya and Sergeant Pachara Yamtaengon, are honored by naming the bases after them to commemorate their bravery. The unit plans to continue completing the remaining work accordingly.
