BMW Car Crashes into Taxi on Si Rat Expressway, Rear End Torn Off and Burned

A BMW car collided with a taxi on the "Si Rat Expressway," with its rear end torn off and catching fire. Two people were injured. The taxi driver said the other driver was speeding and rear-ended him before losing control and hitting a barrier.

At 00:40 on 4 Feb 2026 GMT+7, Police Lieutenant Thipwadee Yoosap, an investigator from Expressway Police Station 2, received a report of a car fire on the Si Rat Expressway in Thung Phaya Thai subdistrict, Ratchathewi district, Bangkok. She and fire station personnel from Phaya Thai, a fire truck, expressway traffic rescue units, and Ruamkatanyu Foundation volunteers rushed to the scene.

The scene was on the four-lane outbound road in the far right lane, where the burnt rear car wreckage was found near a concrete barrier at the expressway edge. Officials sprayed water for about 10 minutes to extinguish the fire. About 3 meters away, a gray BMW with Bangkok license plates was badly damaged in the middle of the expressway.

Upon inspection, a man was found injured and trapped in the driver's seat. Rescue volunteers helped extract him and took him to Rajavithi Hospital. Another injured man, a passenger and friend, was taken to Samitivej Chinatown Hospital.

Additionally, the opposing party, a yellow public taxi, was found with severe damage to its rear right. The taxi driver reported driving at normal speed in the middle lane when the gray BMW came speeding without braking and struck the rear of his car. The BMW then lost control and crashed violently into a concrete barrier, causing its rear to tear off and catch fire.

Authorities are currently reviewing CCTV footage and conducting further investigations with the taxi driver. They are waiting for the BMW driver’s condition to improve before calling him for questioning to conclude the accident investigation.
