Two women fought loudly over a “Lao man” in an alley in Lampang Province. Police, alerted by local residents, investigated and found a homemade Thai firearm in a motorcycle. The man had no work permit.
At about 12:45 p.m. on 4 Feb 2026, patrol police from Lampang City Police Station received reports from locals that two women were violently fighting and slapping each other on a street beside Wat Saeng Muang Ma in Lampang City Municipality, Lampang Province. The fight escalated inside a nearby rented house close to the temple. A man attempted to intervene, prompting police to respond promptly.
Upon arrival, police found the man and women running inside the rental house. Authorities called them out for questioning. Mr. Der, about 20 years old from Laos, acted suspiciously, repeatedly apologizing to officers and claiming no serious incident occurred. He said both women were his girlfriends, and he had brought one to live in the rental house. Later, the other girlfriend returned from work, saw them both, and a fight broke out.
Police then searched under the seat of Mr. Der’s motorcycle and found two firearms: one was a BB gun and the other a homemade Thai firearm. They also discovered several BB gun pellets and live ammunition hidden inside the vehicle.
Mr. Der claimed the ammunition was solely for fishing, but officers remained skeptical. A detailed inspection of the homemade firearm revealed it was equipped with a mechanism capable of firing bullets, suggesting it had been modified to threaten others.
Meanwhile, document checks showed only a Lao passport; no work permit or valid entry documents were found. Authorities detained Mr. Der and transferred him to the Lampang City Police Station for prosecution on charges of illegal possession of imitation firearms (such as BB or blank guns) without a permit or illegal modification to function as a real firearm, in violation of the 1947 Firearms Act. They are also verifying his residency status and work permit renewal; further legal action will follow if additional violations are found.
