OBEC Orders Transfer of Teacher Punishing Student with 800 Sit-Ups, Sets Up Investigation Committee with 7-Day Deadline

The Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC) has established an investigative committee regarding a teacher who punished a student with 800 sit-ups after confirming the punishment took place. The teacher has been transferred to temporarily serve at the district office. OBEC stressed it is not neglecting the matter and has ordered a report within seven days.

On 5 Feb 2026 GMT+7, the Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC) revealed that following reports circulating on social media about a secondary school student at a school in Lopburi province being punished by a teacher with 800 sit-ups, OBEC immediately assigned the relevant team to conduct a fact-finding inspection on site.

Recently, the Secondary Educational Service Area Office Lopburi (SESAO Lopburi), the governing body of the school, conducted a preliminary investigation and found that the punishment did occur. Consequently, they have established a fact-finding committee and ordered the teacher involved to temporarily perform duties at the district office until the investigation is completed. The committee will collect comprehensive facts from all parties involved and report promptly to OBEC for further action.

In response to the incident, OBEC stated it is taking the matter seriously, ordering an urgent investigation with a conclusion due within seven days, and will closely monitor the situation. It instructed the district office to conduct the investigation fairly for all parties involved. Additionally, OBEC reminded all schools that if any student punishment occurs, teachers must follow the established student discipline guidelines appropriately, prioritizing the students’ physical and mental safety above all.
