Officials and Locals Unite to Sing Thai National Anthem After Completing Border Road Construction

Officials and locals joined forces to sing the Thai national anthem after successfully building a road along the border following the reclamation of the area.

On 5 Feb 2026 GMT+7, reporters observed that at the U-shaped area at the end of the border road in Ban Phakkad, Khlong Yai Subdistrict, Pong Nam Ron District, Chanthaburi Province, multiple agencies, officials, and locals gathered to sing the Thai national anthem and raise the Thai flag atop a hill. This was to symbolize the Thai-Cambodian border line after reclaiming the area.

The Chanthaburi border area, particularly in Pong Nam Ron District, consists of forested mountains with no transportation routes. Soldiers had to patrol on foot to monitor the border. They discovered that several dozen rai of land had been altered by Cambodian side using excavators to change the waterway from a U-shaped bend to a straight channel, aiming to claim the land for Cambodia.

Subsequently, border residents and government agencies—including the military, police, local leaders, and villagers—joined forces to raise funds to build a 15-kilometer border road. This allowed machinery to fill in the canal dug by Cambodia, restore the waterway to its original U-shape, and erect a national flagpole on the reclaimed land.

Today marked the day when everyone united to raise the national flag to the hilltop and sing the Thai national anthem, symbolizing that this is Thai soil. During the anthem, Cambodian personnel drove in to observe the Thai side’s activities.

Meanwhile, military officers stationed along the border expressed gratitude to the public and all agencies that contributed funds and effort to complete the road. They emphasized that this road will greatly aid in patrolling and safeguarding Thai sovereignty for the people of Thailand forever.
