On 6 Feb 2026, the Facebook pagePublic Relations of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservationreleased images depicting the thriving forest and the wildlife foraging within Kathun Wildlife Sanctuary in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province.
Staff at checkpoint KT.1 (Khlong Khantheun) shared photos from camera traps that reveal the abundance of wildlife including clouded leopards, hornbills, monkeys, barking deer, and Asiatic black bears living in the protected forest area of Khlong Khantheun, Village No. 10, Khao Phra Subdistrict, Phipun District, Nakhon Si Thammarat.
The wildlife camera traps enable officials to conduct in-depth surveys and gain a better understanding of the animals in the forest. This equipment serves as a vital tool for collecting baseline data on wildlife populations and tracking elusive rare species that are difficult to observe in the wild.
These devices reveal detailed patterns of animal lifestyles and foraging behaviors at different times with accuracy. The insights gained not only improve understanding of environmental factors affecting wildlife survival but also form the foundation for sustainable conservation and ecosystem restoration efforts.
