Khon Kaen Zoo Unveils Black Swan Chick, Symbol of Love, to Welcome Valentines Day

"Khon Kaen Zoo" is launching a "black swan chick" an animal symbolizing love and loyalty to welcome the Valentine's Day festival.

On 6 Feb 2026 GMT+7, Mrs. Tipawadee Kittikhun, director of Khon Kaen Zoo, revealed that the zoo has successfully bred this black swan chick, reflecting the readiness and high standards of animal care at Khon Kaen Zoo, including environment, nutrition, and scientific health management. This marks an important milestone in wildlife conservation and brings pride to all staff.

Currently, Khon Kaen Zoo has a total of eight black swans: two adult males, two adult females, and four newly hatched chicks whose genders are not yet determined. These chicks are under close care by veterinarians and expert staff to ensure their health and proper growth.

The black swan is a large water bird characterized by its entirely black feathers contrasted with a red bill tipped in white. Native to Australia, black swans typically inhabit natural water bodies such as ponds, marshes, and lakes. They are renowned for their love and loyalty to their mates. Their breeding season runs from the rainy season to early winter when conditions are abundant. Both parents cooperatively build nests, lay eggs, and care for their young. The birth of these black swan chicks reflects the healthy environment and effective animal welfare management at Khon Kaen Zoo.

Mrs. Tipawadee Kittikhun added that on Valentine's Day, 14 Feb, visitors are invited to see the adorable black swan chicks, symbols of love and loyalty. Khon Kaen Zoo has also organized special Valentine Day Zoo activities to create a romantic and memorable atmosphere, including photo spots and check-in points labeled Happy Valentine Day Zoo, gift-giving events, and activities to send happiness to the animals.

Additionally, there will be a live broadcast from the pygmy hippopotamus exhibit, allowing visitors to enjoy and capture memories on this day of love. Visitors can see the black swan chicks in the bird exhibit at Khon Kaen Zoo, learn about wildlife, and spend quality time with family and loved ones in a warm atmosphere throughout the Valentine’s festival. Khon Kaen Zoo is open daily from 08:00 to 16:30.
