On 7 Feb 2026, Pol. Lt. Gen. Chaitpochon Suwanrak, Commander of the Personnel Office and Deputy Spokesperson of the Royal Thai Police, stated that for the general election and referendum on Sunday, 8 Feb 2026, National Police Chief Pol. Gen. Kittirat Phanphet has instructed officers to perform security duties and maintain order throughout the election process until the task requested by the Election Commission is complete or until vote counting concludes. This duty is crucial to the democratic process. Police officers are also strictly reminded to remain politically neutral and avoid any actions that could violate election laws.
The police deputy spokesperson said that on election day, police are tasked with securing polling stations, maintaining overall security, and facilitating traffic flow. The National Police Chief has ordered all units to prepare rapid response teams at both police station and provincial levels to be ready to support operations if incidents occur. Officers must thoroughly understand election laws and strictly follow the security and order plans for election management outlined by the Royal Thai Police (Election Protection/66).
Pol. Lt. Gen. Chaitpochon announced that the Royal Thai Police publicly warns citizens that "the sale, distribution, and serving of all types of alcohol and alcoholic beverages are prohibited" from 6 PM today (7 Feb 2026) until 6 PM tomorrow (8 Feb 2026). The police deputy spokesperson invites the public to understand their voting rights and responsibilities, as well as actions to avoid that may constitute election law violations.
