
The Royal Thai Police inform foreign tourists of security measures and traffic facilitation during the general election and referendum, including a 24-hour ban on alcohol sales starting this evening.
Today (7 February 2026), Pol. Maj. Gen. Jaturaphat Piromkaew, Commander of the Foreign Affairs Division and deputy spokesperson of the Royal Thai Police, said that to prepare for the national general election and referendum on Sunday, 8 February 2026, the Royal Thai Police have mobilized over 126,000 officers to provide security at nearly 100,000 polling stations nationwide.
The Election Security and Order Center of the Royal Thai Police began operations on 13 January 2026 and will continue until 12 February 2026. Its main tasks include maintaining public security and order throughout all election processes. Police will strictly monitor and suppress illegal activities, especially vote-buying. Additionally, to protect electoral rights and transparency, officers will guard and oversee the secure transportation of ballot boxes along the entire route.
For tourists and foreigners, the Royal Thai Police announce a 24-hour ban on alcohol sales starting from 6:00 p.m. on 7 February 2026 until 6:00 p.m. on 8 February 2026.
The Royal Thai Police affirm that the safety of voters and election officials is a top priority, with enhanced security measures fully implemented nationwide. Furthermore, traffic police have been assigned to facilitate smooth and safe travel for citizens to access polling stations quickly and conveniently.
