
Tak province was shaken as machine gunfire from an unknown side crossed into over three Thai homes in Mae Sot district, following clashes involving Myanmar soldiers and intermittent explosions.
At 8:00 p.m. on 7 Feb 2026 GMT+7, reporters reported that in the border area of Ban Mae Kon Gen, Village No. 9, Maha Wan subdistrict, Mae Sot district, Tak province, machine gunfire from an unidentified source crossed into Thai territory after fighting between Myanmar's 22nd Light Infantry Division and the Karen National Union (KNU) troops at Ban Min La Pan, Myawaddy district, Kayin State, Myanmar. This area is opposite Ban Mae Kon Gen and Ban Huai Maha Wong in Maha Wan subdistrict, Mae Sot district, Tak province, with clashes occurring intermittently ahead of Thailand’s national election on 8 Feb.
Following a Karen military announcement urging over 500 Myanmar civilians sheltering in makeshift camps behind Wat Huai Maha Wong, Village No. 9, Ban Mae Kon Gen, to relocate and regroup in camps on Manau Island opposite Ban Mae Kon Gen, Village No. 1, Maha Wan subdistrict, Mae Sot district, Tak province, fighting broke out today between Myanmar’s 22nd Light Infantry Division and KNU troops at Ban Min La Pan, Myawaddy district, Kayin State, Myanmar. The conflict involved drone bombings and sustained machine gun fire exchanges.
Stray bullets crossed into Thailand, hitting the home of Mr. Nong Kaewma, 70, in Village No. 9, Maha Wan subdistrict. Bullets pierced the house wall, glanced off a post near his bed, and one struck a glass display cabinet. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The second affected home was that of Mrs. Korn Duangta, 68, also in Village No. 9, Maha Wan subdistrict, where a bullet pierced the roof and ceiling before falling inside the house. The third was Mr. Seksan Buarapa’s house, 56, also in the same village, where a bullet went through the second-floor wall near the bed. All three damaged homes are located within Mae Sot district, Tak province.
Thai military officials surveyed the damage and assessed residents’ safety, urging locals to stay in secure locations. Authorities also sent a formal letter through the Thai-Myanmar Border Committee (TBC) and fired warning shots towards Myanmar to signal caution.
