Today (8 February 2026) in Narathiwat province, reporters reported that security preparations ahead of the general election for members of the House of Representatives — both party-list and constituency voting — along with the referendum in the southern border provinces, are lively. This is amid strict security by military, police, and local administrative authorities following ongoing unrest in the area.
For the election management in Narathiwat province, which has five electoral districts and 1,066 polling stations, officials began opening ballot boxes nationwide at 08:00, aiming for a smooth voting process until closing time at 17:00. The Election Commission has closely coordinated with security forces, integrating 100% of personnel to thwart BRN disruption plans.
A source from security agencies said that since early dawn at permanent checkpoints and screening points before entering Narathiwat municipality, officers have deployed full forces to thoroughly inspect all vehicles entering and leaving.
This operation represents a 100% escalation in proactive measures to prevent violent acts by the BRN insurgent group and malicious actors who might exploit the gathering of voters at polling stations. Emphasis has been placed on "sealing vulnerabilities" in sensitive areas and border zones between districts to reassure voters.
