Heavy Traffic on Asia Road Inbound to Bangkok Near Ayutthaya Following Election Day

Traffic on Asia Road inbound to Bangkok near Ayutthaya is heavy. This congestion is believed to result from many people returning to their hometowns to vote in the parliamentary and referendum elections.

At 15:00 on 8 Feb 2026 GMT+7, reporters observed traffic conditions on Asia Road inbound to Bangkok through Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province. Many people were returning to Bangkok and the metropolitan area on Sunday, a holiday and election day for members of the House of Representatives and the referendum.

It was found that vehicle volume on Asia Road inbound to Bangkok was heavily accumulated around kilometer 26, descending from the Pa Sak River Bridge. Many vehicles turned into Nakhon Luang District, while traffic from the parallel lane merged onto the bridge crossing the railway at kilometer 24, Hantra Subdistrict, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya District. Traffic filled all lanes.

By the time traffic reached kilometer 18, Khlong Suan Phlu Subdistrict, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya District, heavy vehicle volume slowed movement. This was compounded by cars leaving the city center and vehicles from Rojana Road veering left to join Asia Road, causing traffic to slow to about 50 to 60 kilometers per hour.

It is expected that heavy traffic will persist until this evening as many vehicles return to Bangkok and the metropolitan area. Today, being a holiday and the day of the parliamentary and referendum elections, attracted much public interest. Some people returned to their hometowns as early as yesterday. After voting today, they began traveling back to Bangkok, causing traffic to be noticeably heavier than usual.
