A tragic election day incident occurred when a man driving a sedan to vote bent down to pick up his dropped mobile phone inside the car, lost control, and crashed into an aunt and nephew, killing both in Suphan Buri province.
At 08:00 on 8 Feb 2026 GMT+7, Police Lieutenant Colonel Natakrit Phanphueak, deputy investigator at Sri Prachan Police Station in Suphan Buri, received a report of a sedan colliding with a motorcycle causing serious injuries on Highway 340 Suphan Buri-Chai Nat near Payakharam School (Wat Suea), Village No. 2, Sri Prachan Subdistrict. Emergency responders from Sri Prachan Hospital and Semokun Rescue Foundation in Suphan Buri were dispatched to the scene.
At the scene, two people were found with severe injuries. Emergency medical and rescue teams performed CPR and provided initial care before transporting them to Sri Prachan Hospital. A white Honda sedan with Bangkok license plates was found overturned and heavily damaged. Nearby, a Honda motorcycle with Ang Thong license plates was also overturned and severely damaged by the roadside.
The injured were identified as Mr. Sangwan, 49, who was riding the motorcycle, and Mrs. Kaewao, 68, his aunt who was riding as a passenger. Both lived in Sri Prachan Subdistrict, Sri Prachan District. Both injured individuals later died at the hospital.
Investigation revealed that prior to the accident, Mr. Sangwan was riding the motorcycle with his aunt, Mrs. Kaewao, who had just visited a hair salon near the accident site. As they were returning home in preparation to vote, their motorcycle was struck by a car, resulting in severe injuries that led to their deaths at the hospital.
The car driver, Mr. Lertkiat, 47, stated that he was driving from Phak Hai District, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province, to vote at his home in Khao Phra Subdistrict, Doem Bang Nang Buat District. At the accident site, his mobile phone fell onto the left floor of the car. While bending down to pick it up, he lost control, hit the roadside curb, and then collided with the motorcycle. This caused the deaths of Mrs. Kaewao and Mr. Sangwan, aunt and nephew. Authorities recorded the incident to proceed with legal processes.
