Election in Nan Disrupted: Chai Sathan Halts Vote Counting, Awaiting Possible Re-election in Two Weeks

The election in Nan encountered a setback as Chai Sathan ordered the halt of vote counting and sent the matter to the central Election Commission, raising hopes for a new election expected to take two weeks.

At 17:59 on 8 Feb 2026, the chairman of the polling station committee (PSC) for polling station No. 3 in Chai Sathan subdistrict, Mueang Nan district, Nan province, where 579 voters are registered, ordered an immediate stop to the vote count after discovering some ballots with issues that made it impossible to clearly determine whether they were valid or invalid.

After finding problematic ballots, the PSC held an urgent meeting to discuss the situation and explained the next procedural steps. The PSC chairman will promptly prepare a factual report to submit to the chairman of the Election Commission for Constituency 1, who will then forward it to the Nan Provincial Election Commission for further consideration.

Subsequently, the matter will be referred to the central Election Commission (EC) for review and a decision under their authority on whether to uphold the original election results or to order a re-election at the polling station in question.

If the central EC decides that a re-election is necessary at polling station No. 3 in Chai Sathan subdistrict, it is expected that the process can be completed within approximately two weeks, in accordance with the legal timeframe.
