Bangkok Accelerates Relief for Chatuchak Vendors, 11,400 Baht per Family Partial Market to Reopen Friday

Bangkok is accelerating relief efforts for Chatuchak vendors and working on restoration following the fire. The city plans to reopen unaffected areas this Friday and has ordered all officials to complete preparations and cleaning by Thursday evening.

On 10 February 2026, Taiwut Khankaew, Deputy Permanent Secretary of Bangkok, along with Prasat Phomat, Director of Chatuchak District, district executives, and related agencies, inspected the damage from the fire that occurred late on 9 February at the Chatuchak Weekend Market (Gate 1) in Zone 17. They found damage to 48 shops covering approximately 240 square meters.

The Deputy Permanent Secretary stated that they have met with the Bangkok Market Office and declared the fire site a danger zone, strictly prohibiting outsiders from entering due to the risk of further collapse of steel structures. Bangkok will urgently hire expert contractors to swiftly remove debris and damaged structures to ensure the safety of the public and nearby vendors.

Regarding relief for affected vendors, the Bangkok Market Office will consider measures including waiving stall rental fees and providing compensation according to regulations. There are also plans to allocate vacant spaces elsewhere within Chatuchak Market so affected vendors can temporarily resume their businesses while awaiting restoration plans.

For areas not damaged by the fire, the Bangkok Market Office expects to reopen them normally on Friday. Officials have been ordered to complete preparations and clean-up by Thursday evening.

Meanwhile, Chatuchak District has established a relief center at the fire site to register affected individuals and issue certificates for them to use as proof when seeking assistance. Victims will receive 11,400 baht per family from the Bangkok Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation.

A complaint reception point has been set up to assist fire victims from the Chatuchak Weekend Market fire, facilitating timely support. Chatuchak District officials are stationed at the service point to provide advice, receive complaints, and coordinate aid according to relevant regulations at the Bangkok Market Office, 3rd floor.

1. Prepare supporting documents for the assistance application, including:
