Tragically, a Cambodian woman was found mysteriously dead inside a freezer with straw rope tied around her legs. No wounds suggesting assault were found. Her son is suspicious about the cause of death.
At 08:05 on 17 Feb 2026, the Trat City Police Radio Center received a report of a Cambodian woman found dead under unknown circumstances inside a rented room on Chonprathan 1 Alley, Village 1, Wang Krajae Subdistrict, Mueang Trat District. Upon notification, patrol police from Trat City Police Station and rescue workers from the Sawang Boonchuay Thammasathan Trat Association rushed to the scene and found the woman's body inside a freezer. Her legs were sticking out, tied with straw rope, attracting a crowd of local residents.
Police investigator Sombat Kaewmoolmuk, the Trat City Police chief, forensic officers, and the duty doctor from Trat Hospital conducted a thorough examination at the scene.
Rescue officer Songyot, the first to discover the body, said he often passed the area to pick mangoes and knew the deceased as a neighbor who was ill and whom he regularly looked after. On the morning of the incident, he saw the deceased's legs protruding from the freezer and realized she had died.
Initially, police have not ruled out any possibilities, especially since the deceased's son, Samsak, remains suspicious about the cause of death. He said that a few days before the incident, a man had been romantically involved with his mother. Samsak stated his mother never had enemies, and although she drank alcohol, she never caused trouble for anyone. He expressed concern about his mother's death and has provided information to the police.
Reviewing nearby CCTV footage showed that at 16:21 the day before the incident, the deceased was sitting at a marble table before walking away unsteadily, apparently having consumed a significant amount of alcohol. She also had underlying health conditions.
Authorities are currently intensifying their review of CCTV footage, interviewing relevant individuals, and awaiting detailed autopsy results to determine the true cause of death.
However, the latest examination of the body found no wounds indicating assault, only minor abrasions. Police continue to keep all possibilities open and are conducting further detailed investigations.
