"Phichit Samakkhi Kusolsathan Foundation Cemetery" has organized an outdoor screening of four films for "deceased ancestors" in over 330 graves to welcome the Chinese New Year festival, marking the 61st consecutive year of the event.
At 19:00 on 17 Feb 2026 GMT+7, reporters observed the area around Phichit Samakkhi Kusolsathan Foundation Cemetery, Village 7, Khlong Kachen Subdistrict, Mueang District, Phichit Province, which was quiet and eerily still.
Meanwhile, the foundation's committee, led by Mr. Anusit Limsiriwong, vice chairman in charge of the cemetery, organized an outdoor screening of four films for the enjoyment of the more than 330 deceased ancestors buried there. This long-standing tradition, now in its 61st year, is held to welcome the Chinese New Year, the Year of the Golden Horse.
This year's special highlight was the lighting of 100,000 firecrackers dedicated to the local spirits, creating a thunderous noise throughout the cemetery to ward off evil and attract good fortune for the new Chinese year. The film viewing atmosphere included only the committee and a few brave locals sitting amidst darkness and an eerie ambiance.
The four films shown tonight included "Puang Xiang" to start the ceremonies, followed by the comedy "Gang Muang Puan Yaowarat," then the horror film "Na Na Thong," perfectly fitting the spooky atmosphere, and concluding with the action movie "Hell's Order to Hunt."
Mr. Prayoon Yamsuan, owner of "New Prayoon Service" films, said before the screening he had paid respects and informed the local spirits. He admitted feeling excited due to the unique atmosphere.
Mr. Anusit, the foundation's vice chairman, revealed that this is the 61st consecutive year of organizing the event to welcome the Year of the Golden Horse. The special feature this year is the lighting of 100,000 firecrackers to bring good luck, dispel negativity, and attract prosperity for descendants.
