Following the crane collapse during the high-speed rail construction project on 14 January 2026 in Sikhiu District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, the Bangkok–Ubon Ratchathani rail line suffered damage and a fire broke out, resulting in many deaths and injuries.
Ms. Kanjana Phulkaew, Secretary-General of the Social Security Office, expressed her condolences and concern for the injured and heirs of the deceased insured persons. She ordered provincial social security offices to urgently provide assistance, facilitate processes, and ensure prompt benefit support.
Recently, Ms. Kanjana Phulkaew revealed that among 157 passengers on the train, four injured individuals were insured under Sections 33 and 39. There were 30 confirmed deaths, with 29 identified as insured under Sections 33, 39, and 40. Their heirs have received total benefits amounting to 1,421,450.29 baht.
The Social Security Office deeply mourns the families of the deceased and has expedited the payment of legal benefits, including funeral expenses, death grants, old-age pensions, as well as medical and compensation benefits from the social security and workers’ compensation funds, depending on each case and circumstance.
The Social Security Office affirms its readiness to provide care, facilitate processes, and clearly explain benefits to heirs and affected persons to ensure full and accurate protection and to help alleviate the hardships faced by affected families as quickly as possible.
