The Meteorological Department warns upper Thailand to prepare for 'summer storms' during 23-25 February 2026, with thunderstorms, strong gusty winds, and lightning occurring in some areas.
On 19 February 2026, Dr. Sukanya Yawichan, Director-General of the Meteorological Department, announced that Thailand officially enters the summer season of 2026 on 22 February 2026.
The Meteorological Department has warned of summer storms in upper Thailand, especially in the northeastern, central, and eastern regions, due to cold air masses coming from China while Thailand begins to heat up. Moisture from the southeasterly and southerly winds will cause thunderstorms, strong gusty winds, and lightning in some areas during 23-25 February 2026.
They therefore urge the public to avoid staying in open areas, under large trees, near unstable structures or billboards, and agricultural areas.
