Winter is nearing its end, yet the lowest temperature at the summit of Doi Inthanon was recorded at 9°C. Tourists continue ascending the mountain to enjoy the ongoing cool and comfortable weather.
At 9:00 a.m. on 20 Feb 2026, reporters noted that although summer officially begins on 22 Feb, at Doi Inthanon National Park in Chom Thong District, Chiang Mai, Mr. Jeeraniti Chingsaad, the park chief, reported that temperatures on the mountain have risen slightly. The lowest temperature at the summit was 9°C; at Kew Mae Pan it was 10°C, and 14°C at the park headquarters. Tourists still visit the mountain to experience the cool air. Today the weather was overcast with very good air quality. The park staff also carried out disinfectant spraying at key locations to prevent disease outbreaks.
At the Northern Meteorological Center in Chiang Mai, Ms. Nopparat Ritmahan, the forecaster for the northern region on Friday, 20 February 2026, reported that the general weather in the north includes thunderstorms and strong gusts of wind in some areas. This is due to a convergence zone between the southeast and southwest winds covering the upper northern region. Residents are advised to be cautious of potential dangers from thunderstorms and strong winds during this period.
From 23 to 25 Feb 2026, the northern region is expected to experience a seasonal storm characterized by thunderstorms, strong gusts, lightning, and isolated hail. This is caused by a westward-moving wind wave passing over northern and northeastern Thailand while the country experiences hot weather.
