The Meteorological Department issued its first announcement warning of a "summer storm" in the upper Thailand region, with impacts expected from 23-25 February. Vigilance is advised for thunderstorms, strong gusty winds, hail, and localized heavy rainfall.
On 21 February 2026, it was reported that the websiteof the Meteorological Departmentissued Announcement No. 1 regarding the summer storm in upper Thailand (effective 23-25 February 2026).
It states that from 23 to 25 February 2026, a summer storm will occur in upper Thailand, beginning in the Northeast region. The North, Central region, Bangkok including its metropolitan area, and the East will be affected subsequently. There will be thunderstorms, strong gusty winds, hail, and localized heavy rain, along with possible lightning in some areas. This is due to a high-pressure area or cold air mass moving in from China covering the Northeast and the South China Sea.
This results in southerly and southeasterly winds covering the Northeast, Central, East regions, and the Gulf of Thailand, combined with a westerly wind wave moving across the North and Northeast, while upper Thailand experiences hot to very hot weather.
People in these areas are advised to beware of dangers from the summer storm by avoiding open spaces, staying away from large trees, unstable structures, and billboards. Farmers should reinforce fruit trees and prepare to protect crops and livestock from possible damage. Additionally, take care of your health during this changing weather period.
The public is urged to follow announcements from the Meteorological Department and can access information on their websitehttp://www.tmd.go.thor by calling 0-2399-4012-13 and 1182, available 24 hours a day.
