Brother-in-law Shoots Sister-in-law Dead, Dumps Body and Vehicle Separately Claims Self-Defense

A brother-in-law shot his sister-in-law dead, then carried her body and abandoned the vehicle separately. The victim was found 10 days later. The suspect claims self-defense, saying if he hadn’t shot, he would have been stabbed. Police have taken him into custody without any message for the victim’s family, while relatives invited monks to perform a religious ceremony to send off the spirit of the deceased.

Update on the case where a brother-in-law used a shotgun to fatally shoot his sister-in-law, then placed the body in the trunk of a car and drove the motorcycle to discard it in Village 8, Rai Rot Subdistrict, Don Chedi District. The motorcycle was discovered on Saturday, 21 Feb 2026. Later that evening, the decomposed body was found in a pond by a rice field in Village 1, Don Chedi Subdistrict. Upon investigation, it was confirmed to be the missing person reported by relatives, who had left home on 13 Feb.

The Suphanburi Provincial Court approved an arrest warrant dated 22 Feb 2026 for Mr. Montian Charoenphot, who was arrested along with a bronze-gray Toyota Vigo vehicle registered in Suphanburi for inspection. Relatives, including his wife and children, visited Mr. Montian in custody, weeping outside the detention room.

Mr. Montian, the suspect, was taken by police to point out where he discarded the firearm used in the crime in Sai Yok District, Kanchanaburi Province. He stated that his actions were in self-defense because he did not recognize the victim at the time and saw her holding a knife, about to attack him. Holding a gun himself, he fired in response. Afterward, he disposed of the body out of fear and shock. When asked if he had any message for the victim’s family, Mr. Montian replied, “No.” He then left to search for the weapon in Kanchanaburi.

Meanwhile, Mr. Montian’s son claimed that the victim had conflicts with their parents due to drug addiction. He said the victim often caused trouble when meeting the parents. The son denied claims that he revved the vehicle’s engine, saying he has a young child and that it was the victim who did so. To his knowledge, if his father had not shot, he would have been stabbed. He also said he did not know about or have seen the firearm before.

In the afternoon, the victim’s relatives invited monks to the crime scene to perform a ritual to call back the spirit for religious ceremonies. Meanwhile, police are intensifying their investigation and gathering evidence to prepare to send Mr. Montian for detention at Suphanburi Prison.
