
A soldier from the First Army was wounded by bomb shrapnel while patrolling checkpoint 28 at the Ta Phraya-Lahan Sai border near Pha Hin Tat. He sustained injuries to his left palm and lost the tips of his index and middle fingers. He has undergone surgery and is now out of danger from the wounds.
On 24 Feb 2026, a reporter reported that at 14:20 on 23 Feb 2026, a First Army soldier was injured by bomb shrapnel. Sergeant Thanaphon Madyadam, a patrol soldier assigned to the 2nd Long-Range Reconnaissance Company, 2nd Infantry Division, was hit by shrapnel, injuring his left palm and resulting in the loss of the tips of his index and middle fingers. The incident occurred while patrolling at checkpoint 28 on the border between Ta Phraya District, Sa Kaeo Province, and Lahan Sai District, Buriram Province (Pha Hin Tat).
According to reports, the injured soldier is initially from the Burapha Task Force but had to pass through Lahan Sai territory. After the incident, he was transported to Buriram and admitted to Nang Rong Hospital for treatment.
Most recently, on 24 Feb 2026, our team followed up on Sergeant Thanaphon Madyadam’s condition at Nang Rong Hospital. He is in the special surgery ward and has successfully undergone surgery. If his condition improves, he will be transferred back to Chakrapong Camp Hospital in Prachinburi Province for further care.
Inquiries revealed the injured soldier belongs to the First Army's special operations unit working in Lahan Sai District near the Ta Phraya border. Before the incident, he was conducting a routine patrol when he encountered a rope heavily covered with leaves. When he pulled the rope, it triggered an explosion, causing shrapnel injuries. The type of bomb is still under investigation.
Checkpoint 28 is located in Nong Waeng Subdistrict, Lahan Sai District, Buriram Province. It is a Thai-Cambodian border viewpoint with a scenic cliff. From the vantage point, one can clearly see Cambodian territory below. It is a natural tourism site.
