Thai Forces Fire 40mm Small Arms Twice in Response to Cambodian Grenade Near Phlanhin Base

The 2nd Army Region summarized a clash at the Phlanhin Padgon operations base in Si Sa Ket province, where Cambodian forces fired one 40mm grenade launcher round. Thailand responded with five small arms rounds and two 40mm rounds.

According to reports from the 2nd Army Region, while Thai troops were conducting routine patrols near Phlanhin Padgon in Si Sa Ket province, within the area controlled by the Suranaree Task Force, Cambodian forces fired one 40mm grenade launcher round near the Thai patrol point. The incident did not cause any injuries to Thai personnel.

After the incident, Thai forces responded by firing M79 rounds toward the direction of the incoming fire, following engagement rules, as a warning and for self-protection. This was done to safeguard personnel and the area under responsibility. Additionally, measures were increased to monitor the situation and to maintain heightened caution during ongoing operations.

On 24 Feb 2026 GMT+7, the 2nd Army Region summarized the clash at the Phlanhin Padgon operations base, Kantharalak district, Si Sa Ket province, which occurred at 08:50 GMT+7 as follows:

• An infantry company deployed eight personnel to patrol along the barbed wire within the Thai-controlled area.
• Cambodian forces fired one 40mm grenade that landed near the operations base.
• The Thai side responded appropriately with five small arms rounds and two 40mm rounds.
• There was no further retaliation; all personnel remained safe, and no damage occurred.

The 2nd Army Region stated that operations are conducted strictly under the principles of necessity and the rules of engagement.
