
A pickup truck involved in an illegal migrant worker smuggling operation sped away from police, lost control, and overturned, leaving about 20 people injured along the road. The vehicle was packed with nearly 40 individuals. Authorities are urgently pursuing the driver, who escaped by boarding another vehicle.
On 26 Feb 2026, reporters learned that Police Colonel Phakphon Suchon, Superintendent of Division 2, Highway Police Bureau, and Police Major Kritsada Puangpan, Inspector at Highway Police Station 6, Division 2, ordered Lieutenant Kuson Yafan, Deputy Inspector (Patrol), Second Lieutenant Peeratham Noonurat, Deputy Inspector (Patrol), Sergeant Pakorn Sithisak, and Sergeant Nopadol Seenuan, patrol officers of Highway Police Station 6, Division 2, to deploy two patrol cars to monitor their jurisdiction. The operation aims to prevent and suppress all illegal activities, especially the smuggling of illegal migrant workers into Thailand.
At 07:00, authorities spotted a Mitsubishi pickup truck registered in Bangkok, with its license plate tied with a string, believed to be carrying migrant workers fully loaded inside. The vehicle was fleeing a police search, traveling toward Sai Yok District and heading to Mueang Kanchanaburi District. The driver lost control and veered off the road at Ban Nong Sam Phan, Village No. 9, Wang Dong Subdistrict, Mueang District, Kanchanaburi Province, causing the vehicle to overturn. The driver then escaped by boarding another van.
At the scene, officials found many injured male and female migrant workers. Currently, the Pitak Kanchan Foundation is en route to provide aid and transport the injured to Phahon Phonphayuhasena Hospital. Initial reports indicate about 30 injured, including one critical (red), 16 moderate (green), and the rest with minor injuries (yellow). Approximately 40 people were traveling together, none of whom can speak Thai.
