The incident occurred in Phuket where police arrested a Swedish tourist after he slapped an Australian tourist, causing him to fall to the ground, who later died at the hospital. The suspect confessed and was detained pending legal action.
Reporters stated that yesterday evening (25 Feb), an Australian tourist identified later as Alan Roger Jolife, 58, was assaulted and sustained head injuries. The incident took place at the entrance of Siriland Soi on Prachanukroh Road, Patong Subdistrict, Kathu District, Phuket.
After the incident, authorities took the injured man to Patong Hospital for initial treatment, preparing to transfer him to Vachira Phuket Hospital. However, the victim died at 22:23. The hospital notified the police, who coordinated investigators to check CCTV footage at the scene immediately.
Subsequently, authorities obtained CCTV footage from the area capturing the event. It showed Alan Roger Jolife accompanied by a woman, believed to be his girlfriend. A verbal altercation appeared to occur with the suspect, who then slapped him once in the face, causing him to fall unconscious to the ground.
Today (26 Feb), Patong Police investigators reviewed the CCTV and spoke with witnesses who saw a foreign man matching the footage riding a black Honda X-ADV 750 motorcycle with Phuket license plates near the scene. Upon inquiry, he was identified as Pectus Tukuy Tayar, 29, a Swedish national staying at a hotel in Kathu Subdistrict, Kathu District. He admitted to slapping the victim once in the face, causing him to fall.
Initially, investigators detained the suspect and handed him over to Patong Police Station for legal proceedings. He was charged with "assault causing death" and will be brought to court for detention as the case proceeds.
