Soldier Severely Injured After Stepping on Landmine in Chong Ray Area Initial Checks Show It Is Not a Newly Planted Device

The 2nd Army Region explained that one soldier lost his right leg after stepping on a landmine in the "Chong Ray" area, Kabchoeng District, Surin Province. Initial investigations revealedit was nota newly planted landmine. It was buried deep underground and covered by leaves, making it difficult to detect in recent times.

At 08:52 Facebook page2nd Army Regionposted a clarification regarding an accident involving a soldier stepping on a landmine in the Chong Ray area, Kabchoeng District, Surin Province. It stated that on 27 Feb 2026 at 06:44, in the Chong Ray area, a soldier stepped on a landmine and was seriously injured, losing his right leg while carrying out duties in an area under their control.

Initial site inspections showed the landmine was buried deeply underground and covered with leaves, making it difficult to detect recently. It was not newly planted.

The soldier has been urgently transferred to the nearest hospital for treatment, and his condition is being closely monitored. Relevant units are accelerating safety measures to protect personnel who are carrying out their duties diligently and continuously.
